Space heaters
Can a power station run a space heater?
For minutes, not a night. A typical plug-in heater draws 1,500 W on high and 750 W on low, which empties a 1,000 Wh station in about 34 min on high.

Wh × 0.85 ÷ watts. “Output too low”: the heater needs more than the station’s continuous output. A station rated exactly 1,500 W is at its limit. Rows include each station’s own draw where the maker lists it (BLUETTI Elite 30 V2 9 W, Elite 100 V2 10 W, AC180 15 W, AC200L 12 W, Elite 200 V2 10 W, Apex 300 20 W; Anker SOLIX C2000 Gen 2 9 W).
Why heaters drain batteries
A heater turns electricity straight into heat, so its draw stays high: one heater’s manual lists 1,500 W on high and 750 W on low (manual), and a federal workplace-safety office gives 400–1,500 W as the usual range (OCWR). A power station holds 300 to 5,000 Wh.
Safety first
- The CPSC says never to power a heater with an extension cord or power strip, to keep it at least 3 feet from beds, curtains and furniture, and never to leave it running unattended or while you sleep (CPSC).
- Heater makers and safety agencies tell you to plug into a wall outlet (OCWR). A power station isn’t a wall outlet; check your heater’s manual before using one.
Better ways to stay warm
An electric blanket draws 100–200 W (maker): about a tenth of a heater. See electric blanket runtimes and the winter outage guide.
Quick answers
How long will a 2,000 Wh power station run a space heater?
About 1.2 h at 1,500 W on the Jackery Explorer 2000 v2, or 2.3 h on a 750 W low setting.
Is it safe to run a space heater from a power station?
Safety agencies say to plug heaters straight into a wall outlet, never an extension cord or power strip, and never to leave one running unattended or while you sleep. Check your heater’s manual before using any other power source.
